The Sustainable Development between Humanity and Nature Dr. Hong, Tao-Tze Sharm

The interrelatedness of genes, species, and ecosystems has been kept in constant balance. Therefore, the extinction of species is not a problem of a few people, but a great loss to all human beings. The result is that we will have no clean survival space and the situation will become worse for our offspring. To protect the environment with principle, we have to race against time. Having a heart of justice is the essence in cleaning up our environment. The earth is a huge biosphere formed by interdependent ecosystems with living and non-living components. The environment allows creatures to maintain a stable balance. The concept of biodiversity has been extended to all lives of the globe's organisms. Species extinction also indicates that the natural world's cycle is deteriorating. Scientists have been seriously called on humanity to change the way of using natural resources; or otherwise around a half of exit species will be endangered in 50 years. In fact, environmental crisis are to remind humanity that the entire earth has been unusually looted because of humankind's unlimited desire and greedy. A new concept of an evolutionary nature has been raised that someday the human species will become extinct in the process. The only correct way is to learn how to cooperate with nature, which is a lesson of yin and yang that human beings have to study for their whole lives. Due to mankind's rapid population growth, forests being cut down for cultivation of farms, destruction of wildlife habitat, the intensive cultivation of a single kind of crop, and numerous other devastation to the earth, this has resulted in quick and unusual weather conditions, food chains being broken, and lands becoming deserts. These have seriously affected the whole world since we pursue to overtake nature, which fights back with a great power that no technology could deal with. At The United Nations Conference on the Human Environment held in Stockholm in 1972, it was pointed out that the importance of biodiversity is to protect the common heritage of humanity. We highlight the importance of sustaining healthy natural resources. Energy from living creatures radiates to the universe. If humankind takes natural resources through adequate means, nature would develop as it should. This is the golden rule that will let ecosystems and all species return to their original status. The world is becoming more and more interdependent, and any decision will affect the ecosystem, whose time span is measured in thousands and billions of years. Humanity is but a particle of the universe with a limited time to live; thus, the fate of humankind in the future is based on their timely actions. We would like to point out that health of the body, mind, and environment is the fundamental solution for environmental protection issues for those in the 21st century. And the health of the body, mind, and soul will bring a world of health. When one cherishes one's health, the health between body and mind is kept in balance, and the promises of the sustainable development of the planet will depend on people's good thoughts. With good thoughts, we can keep balance of nature while developing natural resources. Following the natural principle is the best way to protect the natural environment of the earth. The first step to managing a problem is finding its root. Everything originates from the "heart." In the world after 2002, the importance of the heart and mind exceed all types of technology; therefore, we should balance the development of both spirituality and technology in hurry. We can learn lessons from centuries ago that all conflicts come from people's hearts. Consequently, when utilizing any resources, we should see all sides domestically, nationally, and globally. This is a win-win solution to resolve problems. Education is a key factor, which builds a correct concept of natural law that comes from one's heart. Only with the assistance of respective governments, non-governmental organizations, civil society or United Nations entities, can global resources be shared and protected. There is only one globe, which is the home of all the people of the world. Any damage, caused directly or indirectly, great or small, present or future, will strongly affect our globe. For the sustainable development of the globe, we have to cherish, maintain, and protect it. World leaders have the right and responsibility to be concerned about the protection of nature, world peace and the future sustainable survival of the globe. The decisions they make at any split second of time and the actions they take greatly affect people and serve as a leading example to others. We have the obligation and responsibility to make the world better, for people to live happily. What we do is for the well being of nature and humankind. May we work together for humankind's greatest goal of "love and peace." |
