Roundtable IV
Achieving the MDGs in Our Changing World
9:30 A.M. – 11:00 A.M..

Developing countries, in particular, are experiencing swift demographic transitions with sharp rises in
the populations of young people and older persons, increased urbanization and globalization. Closely
associated with these issues are migration and other influences, as well as environmental deterioration
and climate change. The fourth Roundtable will examine such issues as:
„h
  • How to ensure flexibility within the MDG agenda so that governments and the international community are
not diverted from responding in a timely way to these changes? „h
  • To what extent can more attention be focused on the “other diseases” of MDG 6, in particular chronic
diseases that represent a large and increasing proportion of the financial, social and health burden in many
    poor countries? „h
  • What can be done to focus more attention on the second target of MDG 5 (access to sexual and
reproductive health) especially in relation to youth? „h
  • How can NGOs help to minimize the impact of the global financial crisis on progress towards advancing
global health and achieving the MDGs?„h
  • Most importantly, what actions can NGOs and civil society activists take after 2015 to maintain
    momentum?
